Why do I need hreflang?
If your site has multiple language versions, hreflang tells Google and Yandex which version to show to users from a specific country or in a specific language. Without it, search engines may serve English-speaking users the Russian version, and vice versa.
What is x-default?
x-default points to the "fallback" page — shown to users whose language or region does not match any of the specified versions. It is recommended to always include this tag.
Where should hreflang tags be placed?
In the <head> section of every language version of the page. All versions must reference each other — this reciprocal linking is required for the tags to work correctly. Alternatively, you can declare them via XML Sitemap using xhtml:link attributes.
Do I need hreflang on EVERY page?
Yes. Hreflang tags must be present on each of the linked pages and must be reciprocal — if page A references page B, then page B must also reference page A.
